Live Illustration Services for events

There are 3 options for live sketching:

1. Quick 10–15-minute sketches on paper in watercolor, marker, and pencil, of your guests and I can do neck & shoulder portraits or full figure with stylized or no facial features (see gallery for examples).
2. Quick 10-15-minute digital sketches created on my tablet. These can be emailed to each guest. Digital sketches can be printed
3. One painting on canvas of the event. I arrive early and paint in the agreed-upon background. Once the couple arrive, I take a quick photo and continue painting during the reception. Painting is finished in my studio and delivered varnished and ready to hang within 14 days of the event.

How do we start?

We will discuss all the details of your event: date, time, location, color theme of the event (I can add custom color details along the edge of the sketch like names and dates) number of hours you would like me to sketch, and the cost. Upon agreement, we both sign a simple contract. I do require a 40% deposit to book the date. As the event date grows closer, the rest of the payments will be due in increments per the contract. Please note that if you are having more than 75 guests, you should consider adding a 2^nd artist.

The day of

I arrive at your venue 30 minutes ahead of time (90 minutes ahead for a painting) and set up at a small table and chair provided by venue.

Each guest or couple will sign their names and email on a list up to 25-30 names depending on the amount of time I have. I take their photos and draw in order of signup during the evening so guests can enjoy the evening. This is first come, first served. When finished, the artwork is placed in an acetate envelope. Digital art is emailed to guests.

I can reasonably draw 6-8 people (or 3-4 couples) per hour, so my fee package includes 10 overtime sketches. Any artwork I don’t finish that day will be completed within a week of the event and usually shipped to the bride or other designated person for distribution. Any additional sketches beyond the overtime will cost $35 per sketch including shipping.

What is the cost?

I live in the Greater Hartford, CT area and can travel all over New England, NYC, and beyond as needed. Average costs range from $2000-$3000 depending on location, number of guests, and hours booked. Travel costs are extra.
